Gabriola Island NVC Summer Camp
July 16-19 2020
It is with some sadness as well as clarity that under the current COVID circumstances, we have decided to cancel our summer camp.
As of April 30th: While the government announced some loosening of the restrictions, the campground remains closed to any bookings and we have no way of knowing what health and financial situations we will be facing. We want to hold you and ourselves with care.
If you are interested in NVC learning opportunities, like our Salish Sea Empathy Society Page. We will post upcoming online NVC training opportunities throughout the spring and summer. As we are now connecting differently through online platforms, some trainers in our community have beautiful offerings in the months to come.
You can also send us an email at to be added to our mailing list. Stay tuned!
Three streams of workshops:
Parenting, Relationships and Social Change
– with Kids and Teen programs.

A wonderful set-up next to the sea where you can swim everyday, enjoy a sunset around a guitar or go for a walk.
Where will we camp?
Gabiola Island is a 25-minute ferry ride from Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, BC, which is 2 hours drive from Victoria, or a 2-hour ferry ride from Vancouver.
Gabriola Island is known as the Isle of the Arts and is bursting at the seams with musicians, artists and theatre! It is Gabriola Island’s beaches, forests, trails and friendly community that draws these creative people here.
The Descanso Bay Campground is close to the village, yet has the beauty, beaches and trails right there.
What about kids?
This camp is intergenerational. We want to embrace the diversity of ages and origins and be attentive to everybody’s needs. In order to allow children and adults to play learn in their own way, we will be providing a kids program during the day and supported freedom for teenagers. There will be opportunities throughout the day to play and share together with all ages.
What will I need to bring?
Please bring food, a place to sleep (tent, rv, trailer, etc.), and an open heart. The campground has potable water. Gabriola has a grocery store, gas station, several restaurants and coffee shops.
"For me, the camp provided such a free flowing and richly rewarding environment for not only self exploration, self connection and self growth, but an amazing and wonderful opportunity to share and connect with others in deeply intimate, profoundly beautiful and meaningful ways, that I often find unavailable in my day to day life!"

Myriam Verzat is passionate about Nonviolent Communication, creativity and nature connexion. This camp is simply gathering her three passions! She is really excited about contributing to make this event a place where everyone can feel at home. She wants to put her creativity and her love for compassion through theatre, dance and music in service of this beautiful gathering. Angela and Mitch are at her side as she supports them to focus on the content and their work of bringing more NVC practitioners and certified trainers into the world.
Founders and Hosts
Angela Walkley and Mitch Miyagawa (NVC Certified Trainers) teach NVC, interweave it in the work they do in communities and the support they provide to organizations and groups. NVC has contributed richly to Angela and Mitch in their relationship with each other and their children, which makes Gabriola NVC Jam and Summer Camp such a fun and obvious place for them to put their energy.
